Wednesday was my "light" day at the Assembly. Because my committee finished its work on Tuesday night, I had no other "official" business as a commissioner until the plenary sessions reconvened at 2:30 this afternoon. My only responsibility was to begin reading the reports on the committees' recommendations on the overtures they had received.
That doesn't mean, however, that I was able to take the morning off. My day began with a Presbyterian Publishing House breakfast (Westminster John Knox Press published my recent book), where I had the privilege of being at table with Brian Blount, the new president of Union-PSCE Theological Seminary in Richmond. After some time reviewing those previously mentioned committee reports, it was off to my seminary's alumni/ae lunch.
Once we were back in plenary, we worked from 2:30 until about 10:15 p.m. Although we did take about a 2-hour dinner break, I used that time for a working meeting with colleagues on the Presbyteries' Cooperative Committee on Examination of Candidates. And even the end of the plenary at 10:15 didn't end my day, as Ed Harding (NCP Moderator) and I made an appearance at a reception for representatives of presbyteries who lead the denomination in certain categories of mission giving.
Continue to pray for all of us as the Assembly moves into its two longest days of plenary meetings on Thursday and Friday.
