Worship this morning filled two venues --- the San Jose Civic Center and the San Jose State Event Center --- linked by the giant screen. Rev. Joan Gray, the moderator of the 217th General Assembly, preached and challenged us all to follow Jesus' commandment to love one another. She reminded us that the really challenge of this command is to love those whom, truth be told, we'd rather not. The God does not accept our obeying this command at our convenience. This worship underlined for us the core message of the gospel --- reconciliation with God and with each other.
Worship in such a huge place is … amazing. There were choirs in both places, brass, organ --- fabulous music and musicians. We celebrated communion, commissioned mission workers, and celebrated the work of military chaplains, of mission workers who are retiring after spending years doing God's work around the world.
I'm sure there are more eloquent ways to describe a time when so many hearts, minds, and spirits are lifted to God in worship. Our words may be poor, but God is great.
