GA moderator election

Dear Saints of National Capital Presbytery,

Last night I was afforded the honor of being invited backstage by Rev. Bill Teng, the NCP endorsed candidate for moderator, to accompany him and  to sit with other friends and supporters of Bill's candidacy.  There I received a view of the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat all in the context of warmth and comradeship.  These four men had come to know each other well and care about each other.  Backstage I received a glimpse of grace that bridged the differences the commissioners sought to discern as they made their choice for moderator.  I also saw the former moderators at work there providing prayer before and after the vote, ushering the new moderator forward while also providing support and solice for those who had offered their services to the church in this fashion but whom the Commissioners had not chosen.  Also from the backstage, the previous moderators gather for their appearance on the stage with the new moderator.  Obviously there is a bit of a fraternity among former moderators, wise elders, saints who have seen it from that seat. There was a since of history as we together recall the work of the church not only at this assembly but also across the years from this assembly to that assembly: Marge Carpenter, David Dobler, Ben Weir, John Buchanan, Jack Rogers, Freda Gardner, Susan Andrews, Joan Gray and now Bruce Reyes-Chow.  It also was a privilege to gain a glimpse of the heart of Carl Mazza, Roger Shoemaker and our own Bill Teng who offered themselves and their perspectives on the heart  of and possibilities for of our church together in their presentations to the whole assembly.

Grace and Peace.

Wilson Gunn
